Akola Project

Like I’ve mentioned before, I love supporting companies that have a strong mission and give back to the community. I discovered Akola Project on Instagram (that endless rabbit hole…) and promptly went to their website and social media pages to learn more about the company. The founder, Brittany Underwood, spent the summer of her sophomore year of college teaching in Uganda. There she met a Ugandan woman who was struggling to care for 24 young kids that slept on the floor. After returning to the states, Brittany started a mission to raise money and build an orphange for the homeless Uganda children.

The Akola Project was created to empower women and provide a future full of opportunities. 100% of the jewelry profits are returned to the women and their communities. Because of this success, vocational training centers were built, educational programs created, 23 clean water wells have been drilled and a 3 story orphanage was built to house 180 children. Now that’s doing some serious good in the world. Every bead in their Paper Collection is hand rolled by these talented ladies. How amazing is that?
