One of my favorite holiday traditions is getting together with my two cousins and having a whole day dedicated to baking lots of delicious treats and watching Christmas movies. Each year we mix up the recipes, but our one constant is sugar cookies. Besides the delicious dough, I love picking out the different cookie cutters and decorating them with frosting and sprinkles.
I don’t have the patience to make sugar cookies that look like they came from a high-end bakery, but I promise these taste just as good. They’re light, fluffy and soft in the center. Follow this easy to make recipe and you’re sure to have a new sugar cookie favorite. The secret ingredient in this recipe? Sour cream.
Question it if you must, but trust that they’ll turn out amazing.
Soft Sugar Cookie
recipe via here
ingredients:
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp baking soda
5 1/2 c. flour
directions:
In a mixer combine butter and sugar. Then add eggs and vanilla. Next add the sour cream.
Combine the salt, baking soda and flour in another bowl. Slowly add to mixture.
Roll the dough out onto a floured surface. Thickness should be 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick.
(yes, they’ll look too thick)

Use your favorite cookie cutters to create the shapes and place dough onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F for 7-8 minutes. They won’t look done, but pull them out.
Let cool and ice with your favorite icing!
tip:  we used a container of the store bought icing since we were running short on time. To doctor it up a bit, add a 1/2 c of powdered sugar and a tsp. of vanilla to the icing. Mix with a mixer and it’ll double the amount of icing and give it a great vanilla flavor!
