Grow It Out

For reasons beyond my control my hair is stubborn at growing. It seems like I can blink my eyes and my friend’s have Rapunzel length tresses. My mane on the other hand, grows at a snails pace. I tried sticking to a regular trimming schedule and cutting back on heat products, but nothing was really happening. It wasn’t until a few months ago when I changed my routine and saw results.
Some tips on how to get that hair growin’….
1. Hair is weakest when wet. Using a wide toothed comb will help avoid breakage and detangle those knots easier
2. Biotin isn’t anything new on the hair/nails growth front, but Mega Red (fish oil) is a hidden gem. The omega-3 fatty acids provide nutrients and proteins for hair follicles. I haven’t been taking Biotin as regularly, but the fish oil I take every morning.
3. Hair elixir is great for added shine, smoothness and reducing drying time. Orofluido is my personal favorite but Moroccan Oil will yield similar results.
4. One to two times weekly I use a deep conditioning mask in place of my regular conditioner. There are tons of options to choose from and most are pretty affordable. Run the mask through hair from middle of scalp down to the ends and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Rinse and notice incredibly smooth and hydrated strands.
5. An overnight repair treatment is a great way to seal in moisture and help repair overworked ends. I apply this product at night before bed and it dries quickly. This has helped me push back a hair cut and kept the hair strong.
Another big rule is cutting back on styling tools. I used to blow dry and style my hair daily, which only added to the problem. Now I let it dry 80% and spritz on a heat protector (this is a favorite) before using a blow dryer.
It also helps that messy buns and dry shampoo are everywhere now 🙂
Alright ladies with long locks, share your secrets please!
xx

I first thought about doing the normal post-wedding chop, but I’ve decided that after the wedding I’m going to keep letting it growwwwww. Glad you posted this so I can keep my hair healthy and strong! 🙂

Good to know on the MegaRed! I took Biotin for awhile and had some adverse effects so I had to stop taking it. I need to look into the overnight treatment as well.

My hair grows pretty easily (and it’s fairly long) but I definitely have to work at it. I actually use that same triple-moisture repair (#4) and it works wonders!

These are some great tips! You should also try moroccan oil – AH-MAZ-ING!

i’m glad i’m not the only one in the universe it seems that has an issue with this. my hair grows PAINFULLY slow. and it is also very fine and thin…so by the time it finally gets some length on it, it is so limp and dead i have to cut it anyway. i tried the trim every 8 weeks and even my hair stylist agreed i had the slowest growing hair ever. the trims just cut off my growth with each visit. sadz.
recently, i’ve changed a few things. i quit dying my hair so much. basically i’m kind of doing the ombre thing, but doing it by basically just not getting my hair highlighted. my ends started getting kind of dead, so i got my mom to trim it just a teeny bit. i started using moroccan oil like crazy. i use it every time i get out of the shower whether i’m blow drying my hair or not. with all the dry shampoo out there i’ve been washing my hair ever other night. this along with the moroccan oil definitely help keep it from getting so dry.
i take vitamins and have tried all kinds of extra stuff for hair growth but haven’t really found that it helped much, so now i just take a regular multi-vitamin that also contains a good level of biotin. what i need to do more of are the overnight and/or deep conditioning treatments. i know these would give me that added hydration i desperately need!
great post and i am going to try a couple of these products. sorry for the novel!

I am buying a wide tooth comb and a hair conditioning mask the next time I’m at the store – they sound like essentials that will help to strengthen my hair. LOVE this post, Ashley! 🙂
