skincare routine

Skincare is something that’s taken me a while to nail down. When I was a teenager I had annoying breakouts like everyone else, but I  was frustrated when I was still getting them through college and into my early twenties. I used to dread getting ready for bed and would quickly rinse off my face to somewhat take off makeup. Now it’s a process that takes a few more minutes, but it helps me wind down and make sure my skin is de-gunked (is that a word?).  At 25 this is the routine I use every day to keep my skin clear and bright.

Step one: Cleansing
AM: I wash my face with cetaphil and cold water. It’s what my dermatologist recommended a few years ago and has worked like a charm since.
PM: First up I use Bioderma on a cotton ball to take off any eye/lip makeup. Next is Dr. Hauschka’s cleansing milk to help remove any makeup that the Bioderma didn’t get. It’s creamy, all-nautral and does a great job taking off stubborn mascara. 2-3 nights a week I also use my Clarasonic to remove dead skin and deep clean the pores.

Step 2: Toning
Products that you can see or feel working right away are the ones that I find the most fascinating. Using either of these toners I can physically see the dirt coming off. I only use toner in the evening (some people do use it both morning and night, this is just what works for me) and as a one last step to remove dead skin and excess oil. I’ve tried tons of drugstore to pricey options and these are the two that I keep coming back to. I spritz the Dr. Hauschka toner all over my face and neck and then use a cotton ball to wipe it off.  For the Origins Balancing toner I put it on the cotton ball first and then wipe it over my face and neck.

Step 3: Creams & Moisturizers
This is my favorite step in the process. Is that weird? I just love the feeling of clean and hydrated skin. On that note, I now sound like an old lady.
AM: I’ve sung the praises of the Origins Ginzing eye cream before, but it’s seriously the best. After cleansing my face I tap a pin head size amount of this cream under each eye. You’ll feel the tingle start to happen as it sinks in and then hello awake eyes! I finish with a small amount of the Korres Pomegranate Cream on my face and neck.
PM: If you’re looking for a thick and super hydrating eye cream, I think this Kiehl’s Avocado cream is hard to beat. A little goes a long way and this small jar will last you months. Once the eye cream absorbs I use Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping facialThis smells so good and essentially is an overnight face mask.

+ Charleston Naturally has 20% off  Dr. Hauschka products with code “DH20”

+ I like to use mainly organic or all-natural skincare products and if any of y’all have favorites please let me know. I’m always looking to try new ones!

Love this post, and I hear you on the annoying breakouts. I still get them in my “later” 20s! I think simple routines tend to work the best though. I love the Caudelie Premier Cru eye cream and lotion. It’s pricey, but for anti-aging and moisture it’s awesome! xo

I totally agree with Annie- Caudalie products are some of my favorites! I also love Amore Pacific moisturizer + SPF. It’s light and smells amazing!

I need that Origins eye cream. Night shift has taken a toll on my skin and my dark bags are there to prove it!

Love this post, I always really enjoy learn what products other’s use. and I have to ask, what kind of camera do you use? Your pictures even of simple things like face products always look magazine worthy! I use purpose gentle face cleanser and origins microdermabrasion scrub once a week. I like to moisturize with Bobbi Brown’s hydrating lotions and Lancome’s overnight moisturizer. I’ve used Dr. Haushkca in the past and liked it too.

These might be my favorite kinds of posts. I have been wanting to try Origins eye cream for forever as well as the Korres sleeping facial. I’ll have to give them a try when I run out of my current moisturizers. Great post with some great products!

I LOVEEEE that Kiehl’s eye cream!!! I have terrible dry skin/eczema around my eyes and that’s one of the few products that actually hydrates but doesn’t irritate the skin.

I’m always so interested to see what other gals do in this area because I’m kind of new to it. I’m the girl that never broke out as a teenager even when I slept in my makeup (which was practically every night). Only in the past 3-4 years have I begun really taking off my makeup at night (instead of just letting the shower do the work the next morning) and really trying to take care of my skin.

My problem tends to be dryness on my forehead and nose so moisturizer is a HUGE piece of the puzzle for me. However, now that I’m 27, I’m starting to read more and more about how I should also be incorporating some anit-wrinkle products into my routine. However, I have sensitive skin and typically only use Clinique products.

Do you use any anit-aging products and if so, are they also mainly organic or all-natural?

I love this post! I have been using Proactiv for the past few months but it makes my face SO DRY! it is constantly peeling and so very annoying. I’ve going to try out some of your moisturizers!

Just added every one of these products to my Pinterest boards of products to try. I seriously need to step up my skincare routine.

Love this post! My clarisonic was by far my favorite skin care product. Sometimes the bedtime maintenance is exhausting right? Between my face and hand/nail/cuticle creams 🙂 I agree 100% origins eye cream is amazing!

Ditto to what all the other ladies said!! Posts like this make me realize maybe I don’t do enough…I shower at night which really helps with taking my make-up from the day off and I use the St. Ives scrub daily to get all the gunk off 🙂 I’m really hoping to get the clairsonic soon (wink wink x-mas gift haha) so my routine will be changing! But I also use the Origins Eye Cream and love it!! Thanks again for the great post!

I really want one of those Clairsonic’s. But the investment just seems crazy to me especially because (knock on wood) my skin is usually kind to me.

I love the Clarisonic and Cetaphil is awesome. I sue their body lotion. Great tips!

  15. December 19, 2013 / 10:44 pm

It’s so easy to be a product junky! You make me want to go out and buy every single one of those products right now! I am actually a cetaphil advocate myself as well a fan of the clarasonic. I don’t have a great night time routine although I need one. I love josie maran’s products –aragon oil. I also was told by a facialists one time to use witch hazel as a toner (its cheap at any drug store) and it works like a charm on black heads.

This site was… how do you say it? Relevant!! Finally I have found something that helped me.
    Thanks!

I love the clarisonic+cetaphil combo! It just does not help your skin really get cleansed but it helps you avoid irritation. The last thing you want to get is an irritated skin if you have acne-prone or dry skin.

Many clients do not understand the scope of AV that is wanted on a venture until well into the design phases, and sometimes
during the construction phase. Having a set of skilled AV support
department eyes on the venture from day one assures that a comparatively correct
    AV scope is established.
