For baby #2 we already have pretty much all the big ticket items from Olivia that we’ve stored and will be using again. Luckily, both our girls are summer babies, so seasonally the clothing and sizes are also the same. There are so many outfits of Olivia’s that I can’t wait to use again on our newest little one! There were still a handful of items that we needed to order new, so here’s what we picked up recently.
feeding essentials:
I know babies can vary in which bottles they like best, but to start with we’ll be ordering new nipples for our glass avent natural bottles and for our comotomo. We loved that both of these bottles had minimal individual parts to clean and the bottles themselves had wide openings for brush cleaning. Burp cloths and bibs are needed, as well as new pump parts. I used the Spectra S1 and it was so helpful to be able to pump anywhere and not have to be by an outlet. Friends have raved about the Haakaa, so added one of those to my cart too!
linens:
We purchased the Newton mattress for Olivia and can’t recommend it enough! Fresh muslin sheets are going on and I love that it keeps the bed breathable, although you don’t even have to use a sheet for this mattress if you prefer not to. For the bath, new towels and washcloths were on my list. I have this soft hooded towel and these muslin washcloths that are perfect for delicate baby skin. You’ll probably want a few new blankets/swaddles as well. I’m packing this pompom trim and this dotted version in the hospital bag. The ollie swaddle and love to dream are washed and ready to go in the nursery! We used them both with Olivia and swore by them.
clothing:
With newborn babies I always gravitate towards super soft gowns, footed jammies and onesies to dress them in in the beginning. Convertible gowns are the best since they make frequent diapers changes easy, but if you need to get in the carseat you can switch the bottoms to pants. My favorites are from Kissy Kissy — insanely soft and so sweet for little newborns! I’m picking up a few new footed jammies as well and love any by Kyte baby (perfect for warm weather since they’re lightweight!) or Kissy Kissy. This rib knit (comes in 3 colors!) one delivered a few weeks ago and is so soft! Until their umbilical cord stump falls off, these long sleeve side snap bodysuits and short sleeve version are the best so they don’t irritate that area! Don’t forget to get new socks (where do they all disappear to??) too — I love this pair, but did find them to run big. Definitely ordered the “newborn” size instead of infant this time around.
for mama:
a few essentials to help with breastfeeding – the best nipple cream, a few new nursing bras, a bra for pumping hands free (a must!) and nursing pads to prevent leaks. I picked up a new button down night shirt (in two colors)that is so incredibly soft and will be perfect for nighttime feedings. Packing this for the hospital!
miscellaneous:
Our old monitor was unreliable and had numerous issues to say the least. I’m excited to switch to the Lollipop cameras for both of the girls’ room and love how portable they are! Another sound machine is a must have in the new nursery. We have one in all of our bedrooms! I love that this one has a light that will be perfect for middle of the night feedings. If you’re having a little girl, don’t forget bows! I reordered more of our favorites from last time – this pick your own set of 4 and this 3 pack go with so many outfits and didn’t leave marks on Olivia’s head like so many do.
