With a proclaimed sweet tooth, I do occasionally get a serious salty one too. Lately as a healthy option I’ve been making my own popcorn. It’s so easy and tastes far better than any store bought packages or movie theatre bucket I’ve ever had. The best part? It’s totally customizable and I can even flavor it with sweet seasonings if I’m in a salty/sweet mood.
How to:
Using a large, deep pot, heat about 2 tbsp of olive oil (or coconut oil) and drop a few kernels into it on high heat. As soon as those kernels stop popping, pour in the rest of the kernels ( I use about 1/2 c), put the lid on and let the popping begin! [side note: sometimes it works best to leave the lid a little ajar]
Shake the pop every so often to prevent burning and once you hear the popping slow down, remove from the heat.
For this batch I seasoned it with chili powder, old bay seasoning and a sprinkle of sea salt.ย
Future seasonings to try: cumin, fresh parmesan, garlic powder, dried herbs

My roommate makes this as her thursday night ritual before we play Wii Dance 2 – yes, we are in college but we don’t get out much haha – and I’ve been known to sneak a few nibbles, SO delicious!

I love, love making homemade popcorn, I can’t even have the microwave kind anymore because it just doesn’t compare! I love your idea of adding herbs to it. Definitely making this ASAP!

Homemade popcorn is the best! I want to try some of your combos! I’m a big sweet salty person, so I add a little chocolate to mine (just a few chips or some m&ms or something, for just a hint of sweet!). I’m in the mood for some now!

Yummy!! I’ve had a stove popcorn maker thing for years and last week used it for the first time ever. The popcorn was so good! Love the additional seasonings you used! And I need to figure out how to make real kettle corn.
