thank you to Walmart for partnering on today’s post

I love the magic that surrounds the holidays, especially with little ones! Growing up some of my fondest memories were days spent in my grandmother’s kitchen with my cousins, mom and aunt baking as many Christmas cookies as we could! We’d drop them off at neighbors, our local fire station and the service providers we count on throughout the year. To make things easier this year I relied on our Walmart+ membership and the unlimited free delivery ($35 minimum, restrictions apply) benefit to order what I needed ahead of time and have everything delivered for a day of baking. Whether it’s fresh produce, happy hour snacks for an impromptu get together or rounding out my stocking stuffers, I love that I can place multiple orders without added delivery fees!

We of course had to start off  decorating gingerbread homes! Two helpful tips — 1) assemble the house ahead of time with hot glue! It’s a game changer and won’t have your house sliding all over the place while you’re frantically reaching for more icing  and 2) use baking dishes while decorating. It keeps all the excess sprinkles, candies, etc in one contained spot and makes for an easier clean up.

When it comes to Christmas cookies, spritz “press” cookies are some of my all time favorites! The almond extract in them can’t be beat and they’re so easy to whip up. This is the recipe we’ve been using for as long as I can remember:

Spritz Cookies:

ingredients:
2 C butter
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp almond extract
2 1/2 C flour

directions:
Heat oven to 400F. Mix butter, sugar, egg, salt and almond extract. Slowly mix in flour. Load cookie press 3/4 dough at a time.
Press the cookies out onto a baking sheet and top with sprinkles.
Bake for 6-9 minutes.
Enjoy!

To keep it easy I ordered the above ingredients through our Walmart+ membership and had it delivered to our doorstep the day before baking. The next morning I filled ramekins with sprinkles and candy (a muffin tin would also work great for the sprinkles/candy!) and my mom and I let the girls go to town decorating. Such special memories that I’ll always treasure!
